Celebrating Small Business Saturday from the Comfort of Your Couch

“Small Business Saturday,” celebrated on the Saturday following the dreaded beast of consumerism that is “Black Friday,” was first conceptualized by American Express in 2010 and has become a wonderful way to remind shoppers to think about spending their hard earned money in their local communities.  Small business owners do a lot for their respective communities and deserve to stay in the retail game.  The problem has always been stiff competition from online retailers who can afford to offer deep discounts on goods that are always appealing, particularly during these rough economic times.  Even if you don't like to shop in person, you can still shop small online and support a small business owner.  With that in mind, here are my favorite small online businesses for you to think about patronizing this November 26th:Taylor Fields started with a coffee cart in 2018 and has since grown her business, Nostalgia Coffee Roasters, honoring the memories and experiences associated with sharing a cup of coffee. Their coffee is organically grown and ethically sourced, with 5% of their revenue going back to the producers. https://nostalgiacoffeeroasters.com/collections/coffee If you're looking for the perfect, delectable baked good to accompany your cup of coffee, look no further than Coco Bakes, https://cocobakesla.com/ .  Coco is an unapologetically honest woman, juggling family life while keeping her business afloat.  Her bread is ridiculously delicious and I can't rave enough about her Espresso Caramel Cookies and the homemade marshmallows available now! And while we are on the topic of baked goods, you really need to order cookies from Loria Stern, https://eatyourflowers.com/ . Since 2016, she has been creating the most amazingly beautiful and delicious edible, botanical-based, baked goods.  She has her own extensive garden for harvesting the plants used in the dyes and decorations for her creations. Her stuff is almost too beautiful to eat, but don't let that stop you! I love candles, but want to choose those that are the most environmentally friendly, meaning those made from natural and organic waxes like soywax, beeswax, etc.  That's why I love the Scent Fetish Candle Company, https://scent-fetish-candle-co.myshopify.com/  These candles have wooden wicks (candles are created with one or three wicks), are made with coconut soy wax, and come with fun names like “Trust Issues” and “When You Needed Roses.” Jenifer Lynn is the founder and sole designer of http://www.jens-jewels.com/home.html . She is an actual silversmith with a degree in 3D Metal Design! Her one-of-a-kind silver and gemstone jewelry is as practical as it is beautiful, creating custom pieces as well as designs that she showcases weekly on a Facebook live event, co-hosted with her mother. These two will entertain you as they present the week's creations, so definitely bring a glass of wine and be prepared to have a rousing good time! If you love dogs as much as I do, then you will definitely want to check out Sharkadoodle, https://www.sharkadoodle.com/ .  Founded by a fellow dog lover and utilizing a small group of creative designers, they turn photos of your dog into one-of-a-kind home décor and accessories for dogs and the people who love them. Haole, a surf-loving Labrador and his family started the company, Haole Boy Life, as a way to help support the Southern California non-profit, A Walk on Water, which provides surf therapy to kids and adults with special needs. Although Haole had to retire from surfing, and lost his battle with cancer in 2020, the lifestyle brand that bears his name lives on, blending So Cal surf vibes with a love of dogs. https://haoleboylife.com/
