Rx: “The Women of Rothschild”Prescribed by: Natalie LivingstonePrescribed for: Fans of shows like “Downton Abbey” and “Bridgerton” and anyone who enjoyed “The Heiress,” by Daisy Goodwin.Side Effects: An overwhelming desire to raise your pinkie as you sip your cup of Earl Grey tea.Directions: This epic, well-researched, page-turner of historical non-fiction is truly an entertaining read worthy of your book group.
Natalie Livingstone is a gifted writer, able to make history fascinating as she tackles the complicated and inspiring stories of the women of the Rothschild dynasty. While the men in this family may have had more notoriety, it's the women who were pulling the strings behind the scenes, influencing the decisions being made, both large and small. No two Rothschild women were alike; some were quite conservative and conventional, while others were outspoken and creative, skirting the art world, high society, and able to keep company with the Queen of England just as easily as drag racing through Manhattan in the company of a famous Jazz musician! I truly hope this book is turned into a miniseries so that the author will gain even more acclaim for her ability to make women in history more intriguing and accessible to the masses.Special Instructions: Tea time, the perfect opportunity to rub elbows and influence the influencers.
