5 Songs to Listen to During the Eclipse
On Monday, August 21, 2017, people living in the United States will be able to witness a total solar eclipse during which the shadow of the moon will completely block out the sun as it travels in a band across the entire continental U.S., from Oregon to South Carolina. This darkness is known as totality and its path will be 70 miles wide. What you'll see during this time, if you're lucky enough to be in the right place is the corona, the sun's outer atmosphere, which will appear as a hazy ring. Do wear eye protection, by the way, as the sun's rays can still damage your eyes. NASA has lots of handy dandy information (including printable pinhole viewers) on all things eclipse-related here. We have concerned ourselves with an equally important issue: what should you listen to during your eclipse viewing?Black Hole Sun by Soundgarden"Black hole sunWon't you comeAnd wash away the rainBlack hole sunWon't you comeWon't you come (won't you come)"The Sound of Silence by Simon & Garfunkel"Hello darkness, my old friendI've come to talk with you againBecause a vision softly creepingLeft its seeds while I was sleepingAnd the vision that was planted in my brainStill remainsWithin the sound of silence"Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me by Elton John"Don't let the sun go down on meAlthough I searched myself, it's always someone else I seeI'd just allow a fragment of your life to wander freeBut losing everything is like the sun going down on me"Ain’t No Sunshine by Bill Withers"Ain't no sunshine when she's goneIt's not warm when she's awayAin't no sunshine when she's goneAnd she's always gone too longAnytime she goes away"https://youtu.be/tIdIqbv7SPoBad Moon Rising by Creedence Clearwater Revival"I see a bad moon a-risingI see trouble on the wayI see earthquakes and lightnin'I see bad times today"https://youtu.be/zUQiUFZ5RDwAnd of course, we're listing this as a bonus because it's SO obvious, but no eclipse is complete without this one from Bonnie Tyler. In fact, word has it Ms. Tyler will be performing her hit live during the eclipse. (Honorable mentions include Moonshadow by Cat Stevens, Enter Sandman by Metallica, and the entire Dark Side of the Moon album by Pink Floyd.)Total Eclipse of the Heart by Bonnie Tyler
